DESTINATION 1: Honiara WWII Wreck Diving
Guadalcanal was witness to fierce naval battles during WWII and was a turning point in the Pacific campaign. “Iron Bottom Sound” is host to hundreds of wrecks. Destroyers, minesweeper, troop carriers, transport ships, submarines and planes provide an incredible range of dive sites.
DESTINATION 2: – Uepi Island Experience
Uepi Island is the place to experience magnificent reef diving! Dive sites vary from coral gardens with dramatic drop-off ledges and gutters, to wrecks, muck diving, and stunning house reef diving. There is enormous diversity of reef fish, turtles, mantas, and eagle rays, reef sharks, and even pygmy seahorses to see.
Uepi Island Resort offers the ultimate island experience! Turn off from the outside world with no internet, modest rooms, and cold showers. Introduce yourself to the local monitor lizards, flapping hornbills, pigeons, and singing geckos. Soak up the breath-taking scenery accompanied by attentive hosts and delicious fresh healthy food for the entire week.
Sunday 1st September
Make your way to Brisbane. Tour Leaders Emma & Callum will let you know the flights they are on so you can join, or you can travel solo if you prefer to travel at an earlier time.
Monday 2nd September
The group tour officially begins! We are all flying on the 10am flight to Honiara (3 hour flight time), we arrive at 2pm and then it’s a short 20minute drive to the Mendana Hotel.
Tuesday 3rd September
Let’s go diving! We have organised two boat dives in Iron Bottom Sound, then a free afternoon to explore (or try to book a sneaky 3rd dive). Want to check out the dive sites? Have a look here
Wednesday 4th September
Diving day 2! We will do another 2 boat dives today, getting us out of the water just after midday. The afternoon will be free time to explore Honiara or kick back around the hotel pool with a cocktail.
Thursday 5th September
Today we say goodbye to Callum and this group as we check out from Honiara. You’ll have most of the day to explore the nearby war memorials, soak up the sun, or relax around the hotel pool before we jump on the 4pm flight to Seghe (1 hour flight time). There’s a short 18km boat ride across the Lagoon to get us to Uepi Island Resort as the sun goes down. Now we soak up the island experience for 7 nights!
Friday 6th – Tuesday 10th September
These 5 days of diving will consist of 2 boat dives every day, plus as much snorkelling as you’d like. House reef dives will also be available and more details will be provided on arrival. When you have down time over these days you might want to take a kayak out for a paddle, borrow a book from the resort library, or chill in a hammock. Want to know what to expect from the dive sites? Have a look here
Wednesday 11th September
There won’t be any diving today so we are ready to fly the next day, so we are off on a land tour to explore the local Village or Waterfalls (personal preference). Sunset cocktails and group photos will be in the agenda this evening.
Thursday 12th September
It’s time to make our way home. We will take the boat back across the lagoon to the airstrip for our 10.30am flight back to Honiara. Callum and his group of Tech Divers will be there to join us on the flight back to Brisbane. Flight departs Honiara 2.45pm and arrives in Brisbane 6pm where the formal group travel comes to an end.
